praise is nice; its nice to feel appreciated. some people place too much importance on it and compromise too much while chasing after it. other people use flattery to nudge people towards doing things they want of them.
when someone is downplaying or minimising your contributions however, its nice to go back and notice that you werent just talking to yourself for two years. besides, if you are advocating change it is helpful to have some indication that some messages got across. the 90-9-1 rule applies as well ([url]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1%25_rule_(Internet_culture)[url]).
